Vegan vs. Plant-Based – What’s the Real Difference?

In this episode, Join Chef April as she’s digs into a topic that gets tossed around a lot but often misunderstood: Vegan vs. Plant-Based diets. Are they the same thing? Not quite—and the difference matters. A vegan diet is rooted in ethics. Vegans avoid all animal products—not just in food, but in every aspect of life. That means no meat, dairy, eggs, honey, leather, or even products tested on animals. It’s a lifestyle focused on minimizing harm to animals and reducing environmental impact. On the flip side, a plant-based diet is all about health and nutrition. It emphasizes eating mostly—or entirely—whole, unprocessed plant foods like fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and legumes. Some people who are plant-based might still occasionally consume animal products, but the main focus is on eating for wellness and longevity. So while both diets overlap in what’s on the plate, they come from different mindsets: one ethical, one nutritional. Tune in as we break down the science, share real stories, and help you decide which path—if either—is right for you.
